When Trust Is Broken

2014
A builder in Wheatley Hill quoted £27,270 for a two-story extension but requested nearly the full amount—£26,000—long before planning permission was granted. The homeowner made several payments, trusting the builder, only to be left with broken promises and no work completed.

2019
A builder in Somerset defrauded clients across the West Country of more than £2 million. One homeowner paid £93,000 for a driveway extension and orangery rebuild. Scaffolding went up, but work stalled. Each payment was supposedly for materials and labor, but neither arrived, leaving the home looking like a “junkyard.”

2022
A couple in Marlborough paid nearly £90,000 in deposits for an extension to their family home. The builder promised to complete the project in 10–12 weeks, claiming the money was for materials stored in his lockup. Instead, attendance at the site became sporadic, invoices were never provided, and the couple’s money disappeared.

2025
A builder in the Forest of Dean was sentenced after pocketing £10,000 from a customer and failing to carry out the promised work.

A Personal Realization

Before founding Materika, I saw this pattern of broken trust firsthand.

While working for a reputable construction company, we often had to take over projects where builders had abandoned their clients. The stories were always the same:

  • Builders demanded large sums of money upfront, claiming it was for materials.
  • The money was used elsewhere—covering debts, propping up cash flow, or simply disappearing.
  • Homeowners were left stranded, their projects incomplete, and their trust shattered.

It was frustrating and heartbreaking to see so many people lose their hard-earned money and dreams.

That’s when I thought: What if I can help?

The Start of Something Better

I tried the Materika concept with the company I worked for, and it worked.

Here’s what I did:

  • I became the middleman between clients and builders, ensuring payments were only made when work or materials were genuinely needed—not weeks in advance.
  • I vetted builders and suppliers to make sure they were reliable and trustworthy.
  • Payments were handled directly, cutting out the risk of misuse or shady business practices.

The results were incredible. Not only did this system restore trust between clients and builders, but it also made projects more efficient and cost-effective. By consolidating material orders through a single supplier, I often managed to lower overall costs—all without disturbing the original contracts.

This Is Materika

Materika was born from this idea: to bring honesty and transparency to the construction industry and give homeowners and business owners a safer way to build.

We’re here to:

  • Protect your money: Payments are secure and released only when needed.
  • Ensure reliable material orders: No overpaying, no delays, no missing materials.
  • Bridge the gap between clients and builders: Trust is restored through accountability and transparency.

With Materika, you can focus on your dream project while we handle the hard part—ensuring everything runs smoothly, honestly, and transparently.

Your project deserves better. This is why we’re here. Welcome to Materika.
